CAN Festival Comedy Night

12 March 2021

CAN and SOHO THEATRE present CAN Festival 2021 Comedy Night. A raucous night of comedy and conversation with your favourite British comedians of Chinese heritage - Evelyn Mok, Phil Wang and Ken Cheng. There will be clips and best bits and a lot of chat, live through the medium of zoom.

EVELYN MOK

Featured on BBC 3, Channel 4 and Comedy Central, the award-winning Swedish comedian presents her honest and self-referential comedy that is “uncensored, unapologetic and… wildly refreshing” (**** BroadwayBaby) as she explores topics from race and sex to being a woman of colour. Named on BBC’s New Talent Hotlist, she has received praise from the likes of Sarah Millican and Graham Norton who deemed her “Really funny, really rude but also refreshingly honest and smart”.

KEN CHENG

Cambridge Mathematics drop-out and now professional poker player Ken burst onto the UK comedy scene after reaching the final of the 2015 BBC Radio New Comedy Award. His unique, analytical style made him instantly recognisable.
Ken has written and starred in his own BBC Radio 4 series, Chinese Comedian, which was selected for Radio 4’s Pick Of The Year and returned for series 2 in January 2020. He also wrote and starred in his own BBC Three short Proverbs Ken Cheng Hates.

He has hosted Game Over, Humans (a documentary about poker and AI) for BBC Radio 4 and The Hangover Games for E4. Other TV and radio credits include Celebrity Eggheads (BBC Two), Comedy Central at the Comedy Store and Roast Battle (Comedy Central), Sparks (Channel 4), Dave’s Advent Calendar (Dave), BBC Asian Network at the Edinburgh Festival (BBC Asian Network), Evil Genius (BBC Sounds), Breaking The News (BBC Radio Scotland), A Good Read, The Now Show and Quote Unquote (BBC Radio 4).

In 2019, Ken embarked on his first UK wide tour performing to sold-out audiences. He will be performing his latest show at the Soho Theatre in London, dates to be confirmed.

Phil Wang is a British/Chinese-Malaysian stand-up comedian based in London. He is a regular on TV and radio comedy.
